Concrete coating refers to the coating given to a concrete surface after curing it. The benefits are two-fold: it makes the surface attractive and durable. As the coating solidifies, it protects the floor from chemicals, abrasions, and degradation. No harsh environmental conditions can put a scratch on the floor. Both industrial and residential buildings use these coatings.
The first step involved in the concrete coating is floor preparation. This requires filling up any crack or pit on the floor. Usually, there are two methods – diamond grinding and shot blasting. Diamond grinding is for surfaces having small holes. Shot blasting is for floors, which have witnessed aggressive wear and tear. The steel shot cleans the surface of deep blemishes and other imperfections. This step is vital to prepare the floor surface for the new look. For edges, the company uses hand grinding. This process prevents the coating from peeling from the edge along the wall. The next step is vacuuming. It helps clean the area of dust, gravel, or dirt. Once cleaned, the company applies the first layer of concrete coating, the primer. It seals the floor, solidifies the surface, and makes it ready for extra layers of coating. Now, depending on the desired thickness, the company applies additional layers. Before the final layer, the company performs fine sanding on the sub-layers. This strengthens the bond between the final coat and the bottom layers. Then comes the final layer of coating. Thereafter, the staff cleans and seals all the joints on the floor through joint caulking. This process ensures that dust and dirt do not make their way to any cracks. Now, the company must follow all these steps carefully to get a beautiful and durable finish. There are several types of concrete coating: High-Performance Coating This coating is ideal for surfaces that are prone to abrasion and chemical spilling. The coating gives the floor the much-need resistance and increases its durability. Industrial Floor Coating Industrial coatings focus on protecting the floor from abrasions than making it beautiful. The result is both appealing and durable. The floor becomes resistant to oil spills, corrosion, and chemicals. Polished concrete Polishing hardens the concrete and increases its resistance to scratches. Apart from making the floor aesthetic, it has less impact on the environment. No wonder, polishing is always high in demand. Corrosion Resistant Coatings These coatings have anti-corrosion properties. It gives an added layer of security to metals. The metal surface is no longer prone to ill-effects of chemicals, moisture, or oxygen. Waterproofing Deck Coatings The options are plenty to make the deck waterproof. It enhances the life of user’s wooden deck by not allowing water to infiltrate its surface. Non-Slip Safety Coatings This coating gives traction to humans and vehicles and prevents them from skidding. Impact Resistant Coatings This type of coating increases the shelf life of garage floors. No heavy piece of machinery can leave a scratch on the floor.
