The pharmaceutical industries use different types of machines for various functions. In this category, semi-automatic capsule fillers are crucial assets in executing the production process. In definition, these machines are used to fill empty capsules with medicinal ingredients. Semi-automatic machines combine the function of both automatic and manual equipment. They can produce products at a large scale with higher efficiency. The machines are also known for their durability and low maintenance needs. Their working principles are explained in detail below.
Most new, empty capsules are joined together during the initial stages. Hence, they need to be rectified to fill the pharmaceutical ingredients. They travel randomly into a delivery plate with inner circular channels. The machine reciprocates them up and down several times to release spring pieces. Then, a vertical fork adjusts its position, so all the cases enter a segment downward.
1. Tamping This type uses tamping punches to compact power. After that, machines fill powder into each body. It can ensure high accuracy dosage with errors being low as 2%. However, it works only with high fluidity ingredients. 2. Intermittent In this method, equipment will insert empty tubes directly into a dosage hopper and use a punch to press powder. Then, they rotate 180° and press ingredients into vials for a complete filling. 3. Vacuum The vacuum filling method use vacuum to pull medications of the right dosage. They use compressed air to press ingredients into a tube body. It avoids any damage to the pill compared to other methods.
Semi-automatic capsule fillers lock the upper and lower parts in this method using a baffle plate. Once locked, the device will eject finished tubes out of the tray using compressed air blows.
As the last step, finished capsules will move to the rectification camber to remove any remaining powder or wasted particles. The machine can finish more than 450K tubes per hour, depending on the speed.
